Casey Family Services is the direct service agency of the Annie E Casey Foundation, a national philanthropy dedicated to helping vulnerable kids and families succeed. The mission of Casey Family Services is to help children thrive in safe, nurturing, and strong families.
In 1976, Jim Casey, the founder of UPS, established Casey Family Services as a fully licensed non profit child welfare agency dedicated to helping children in foster care. The agency has offices in all the New England States and in Baltimore, MD. The Vermont Division was established in 1984 and has offices in Winooski and White River Junction.
Over the past 25 years, we have evolved to provide comprehensive services that support safe, stable and life long family relationships for children and youth in foster, adoptive, birth, and kinship families.
We offer flexible services designed to meet the needs of each child and family. Our staff provide services that are respectful of individual differences and offer the safest level of connection possible between children and birth family members, even when they are unable to live together. We work in close partnership with other service providers, creating strong support teams for each child and family we serve. We know from experience and research that children transition more successfully to adulthood when they have safe and enduring connections with caring and reliable adults.
At Casey Family Services, we believe that children and youth are most likely to thrive and reach their fullest potential when they grow up with lifelong connections to safe, reliable, and supportive families. We also believe that they have a right to legal membership in a permanent family. We provide services that are customized to meet the needs of each child/youth and family in two broad categories -- Permanency Planning and Family Strengthening.
Our Permanency Planning Services include providing foster care for up to 50 children in the custody of Vermont's Department for Children and Family Services (DCF) and New Hampshire's Department for Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). With a commitment to ensuring that the children/youth in our foster homes have lifelong connections to caring, responsible adults and the highest level of emotional and legal permanence before exiting the system, we provide a high level of support and education to our foster parents. When children/youth cannot be reunified with their birth families and are free for adoption, we help our foster parents adopt them.
Our Family Strengthening Services include helping adoptive families understand and manage the emotional and psychological challenges adopted children/youth face at various stages in their development.
We also help stabilize families at risk of having their children placed in out-of-home care. We provide them support and, through education and referrals to community resources, tools that help them improve their circumstances so they can continue to parent their children, reunify with children in out-of-home care, or make appropriate alternative care plans for them. In addition, we work with guardians and other relative caregivers to maintain family permanence. Families do not have to be involved with DCF/DCYF to receive these services.
Across the state, agencies working on behalf of children in foster care need your help. If you (or someone you know) are interested in becoming a foster or adoptive parent, please call us at: 888-799-kids, or email email@example.com.
