Vt. inns could reap boost in business from gay marriage

DUXBURY Greg Trulson and Willie Docto are hoping for a surge in business at their hilltop inn now that Vermont has become the fourth state to legalize gay marriage.

Their Moose Meadow Lodge, with its spectacular view of nearby mountains and welcoming reputation in gay tourism circles, saw a big boost in business from civil union ceremonies after Vermont in 2000 became the first state to allow same-sex couples to tie the knot in that fashion.

By midday Wednesday, a day after lawmakers overrode Republican Gov. Jim Douglas' veto to take the state to full marriage for gay and lesbian couples, Trulson said he already had received three phone calls and four e-mails from past guests who wanted to do their civil unions over as weddings.
