Bonuses put AIG in uncomfortable spotlight

American International Group, the corporate giant that owns Stowe Mountain Resort, never spent this much time in the spotlight when it was the largest insurance company in the world.

But now that the company's on the financial ropes, America is paying attention - particularly the news that AIG, recipient of about $180 billion in federal bailout money, paid out $165 million in bonuses to present and former executives.

"With the AIG bonus furor driving the narrative, the financial meltdown last week generated its highest level of coverage to date," according to a report from the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism on news coverage from March 16-22.
