Calendars of Events:
Four years ago, with little fanfare, students from Harwood and GMVS started training at the field at the Mad River Park. Uncertain about numbers and whether we would even be able to field a team, we ended up with an abbreviated schedule that spring.
Since then, the boys have finished third in their division at the New England High School Tournament; the girls joined with Rutland and finished second. Additionally, Mad River girls have traveled with the New England U-19 Select Side to a tournament near Philadelphia, and a Vermont Select Side that traveled to Ontario. Several of our boys have played with teh New England Select Side and the Vermont Select Side.
Organized as a club, and not affiliated with any one school, we are members of USA Rugby and the New England Rugby Football Union.
Our Spring season begins April 7th with home games against Essex. Currently, we have games scheduled for April and into May, plus the possibility of two tournaments.
Girls @ 11.30
Boys @ 1 pm
Weekday games TBD
For personal equipment, every player needs cleats, a mouthguard, shorts, and socks. Almost any molded cleat (such as a soccer shoe) is suitable for rugby. We generally order shorts (black) and socks (forest green w/ gold top stripe) as a group and get a good discount; we could do the same for cleats if there is enough interest.
Training will be Tuesday and Thursday: Tuesday at Green Mountain Valley School, 6-7:45 p.m. and Thursday at Crossett Brook Middle School, 8-9:15 p.m. Days and times for outdoor training are sill to be determined. (I am trying to arrange for Tuesday and Thursday, 6 pm., most likely at Brooks Field in Warren.)
Feel free to call or write if you have questions or comments.
