Browns River Middle School is a rural 5-8 school located in Jericho, Vermont. We serve 429 students from the Jericho and Underhill communities. Our school is located in the northwest corner of Vermont, about 20 miles from Burlington and Lake Champlain. Our backyard has beautiful playing fields, a close-up view of our state's largest peak on Mt. Mansfield, and the Browns River on the edge of our campus. We are part of the Chittenden East Supervisory Union, which serves approximately 3,035 students from six communities. The two middle schools and high school comprise the smaller Mt. Mansfield Supervisory Union. Students from three K-4 elementary schools enter Browns River in 5th grade. Upon leaving Browns River, students move on to attend our 9-12 Mt. Mansfield Union High School in Jericho, along with students from our sister school in Richmond, Camels Hump Middle School. Browns River has a staff of 70 with an average class size of 21 and a student:teacher ratio of 16. Our teaching teams vary from a single teacher in a self-contained looping configuration, to two, three and four member teacher teams who are responsible for education in language arts, social studies, math, science and reading.
