N/A - Apartment Building Fire, NONE

Vt. State Police - 2:40 pm Mon Nov 6th, 2006

On 11/05/06 this officer, Det./Sgt. Fred Cornell, and Inv.

Scott Adnams from the Division of Fire Safety conducted a origin and cause investigation of this scene. Through the scene investigation the area of origin of this fire was found to be in the first floor ceiling / second floor rear apartment bathroom floor. Investigation showed that a steam fed pipe from the furnace ran through this area to a junction in the area of origin. This location had a floor joist which rested within less than 1 inch of this pipe. The fire cause was most likely due to the pyrolysis (chemical decomposition of a compound by application of heat alone, this often precedes combustion) of the joist over time and eventually ignition of this material. This fire was ruled accidental.
