Costume Countdown

More is more when it comes to Halloween costumes I’ve learned. Why pick just one theme when you can combine multiple ideas together. Take some of the top contenders for my kids this year like the ‘rainbow zombie unicorn’ or a ‘glow-in-the-dark skeleton’ paired with a paleontologist vest and hat. Whatever you settle on, it’s not too early to get your costume on and enjoy some fall events this week. Keep reading below to find out what’s ahead!

Ooky Spooky 5K Race to Benefit COTS

Witches, pumpkins and goblins of all ages will run or walk on Saturday, October 16 at Rock Point School in Burlington to raise money for the Committee on Temporary Shelter. The annual 5K benefit race goes through Rock Point property, the Burlington Bike Path and North Beach from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Prizes given for the best costumes! Click here for more information.

New York City-based comedian, public speaker and advocate Pamela Rae Schuller returns to her alma mater, Rock Point School, for a public performance on Saturday, October 16. The comic and advocate shares how living with Tourette syndrome, obsessive compulsive disorder and her short stature — she's four feet, six-and-a-half inches tall — launched her on a path to success. "Instead of making disability an other or a negative thing or something that is like an affliction, talking about it as part of the human experience. BTV Halloween Ride

The annual costumed bike ride through the streets of Burlington falls on Halloween this year! Join hundreds of riders on Sunday, October 31, for a rolling Halloween costume party! The police-escorted parade begins at City Hall Park at 2 p.m. Celebrate "shared streets, not scared streets." Free event for all ages! Sign up!

 

Queen City Ghostwalk Fright by Flashlight

Fright by Flashlight is a haunted tour of historic Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington that's geared toward kids and their parents. This evening adventure uses storytelling and vintage ghost hunting techniques to introduce kids to the history of paranormal research. Recommended for kids 8 to 12. Tours take place October 16, 23 or 29 from 6 to 7 p.m. Space is limited. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance. Click here for more information.

Film Series Makes Family-Friendly Comeback in Middlebury

The Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival re-launches its monthly in-person film series called MNFF Selects with a free matinee screening of the Oscar winning documentary My Octopus Teacher on Sunday, October 17, at 2 p.m. This year’s theme is "Humans and Animals: Shared Experiences, Intersecting Worlds." Six of the eight films set to screen are rated either G or PG. Stuck in Vermont: South Burlington Bus Driver Steve Rexford Is Part of the Team

Eva Sollberger's latest "Stuck in Vermont" features Steve Rexford, who has been driving school buses for the South Burlington School District for the last 13 years. He's become a highlight requested bus driver, especial for the girls' sports teams and is known as a good luck charm.
