VSO Announces #Masterclef, a Music Competition for Young Composers

Teen composers: Roll up your sleeves and tap into your creative zen. The Vermont Symphony Orchestra has announced #Masterclef, a music composition competition for Vermont kids in grades 6 through 12 developed in partnership with Suad Bushnaq, an award-winning Jordanian/Canadian composer. "I hope that each one of these students leaves this competition feeling empowered,” Bushnaq said. The deadline is October 12. Click here to read more.

Lincoln and Bristol Artists Update Garlands Bridge Mural

Two dozen kids, ages 9 through 14, spent July recreating the mural at Garlands Bridge in Lincoln. Artist Rory Jackson organized the art project alongside his 15-year-old son, Judah (pictured), who was the lead artist behind the new mural creation. "It's a public project. It's not for anybody to keep; it's to share," said Rory Jackson. Click here to read more.

A Poetic Pilgrimage to the Robert Frost Stone House Museum in Shaftsbury

Frost "lived in the house for nine years — writing poems, tending an apple orchard, raising chickens and walking in the woods. Stuck in Vermont: Troy Headrick Sculpts a Giant Slingshot for his Burlington Backyard

Check out the giant slingshot in Eva Sollberger's "Stuck in Vermont" video this week. The maker found a dead tree trunk shaped like a Y in the woods last year and transformed it into an almost six-foot version of a common childhood toy. Click here to watch the video.
