Northfield, Vermont is a community of 5791 people (2000 Census) located in the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains. Home to Norwich University, the oldest private military college in the United States, Northfield is an easy ten-mile drive from Montpelier, the state's capital, and three hours from either Boston or Montreal. As such, Northfield offers easy access to both idyllic rural and culturally diverse, cosmopolitan settings. Located outside of the Village are the more rustic sections of Northfield, as well as Norwich University and Northfield Falls. The Town of Northfield has six covered bridges, four of them located in "the Falls" on the northern edge of town. These include the Slaughterhouse Road Bridge, which is located off of Vermont Route 12. Nearby are three covered bridges in close proximity on Cox Brook Road. At left is the Stony Brook Bridge, which is located in the southwestern section of Northfield off Vermont Route 12A. Also registered nationally is the privately-owned Chamberlin Bridge, which is on Chamberlin Road off of Stony Brook Road.

The Town Clerk is elected by Town voters and is responsible for maintaining all official town records; sending out property tax bills and recording payments; supervising elections in Northfield; providing various licenses to the public; and a myriad of other duties. The Town Clerk's Office is in the Northfield Municipal Building (seen at left), which is located at 51 South Main Street and is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The current Town Clerk is Kim Pombar and her phone number is 802-485-5421.
