History of Lottery Games

The Vermont Lottery has released hundreds of Instant "Scratch Off" games and offered many different on-line games (which are numbers games offered through the Lottery terminals at Lottery agent locations) to consumers. Six products are currently available to Vermont Lottery players: Instant Tickets, Vermont Powerball, Tri-State Megabucks, Tri-State Triple Play, Tri-State Pick 3 and Tri-State Pick 4.

Instant Tickets

Instant tickets create the largest revenue for the Vermont Lottery. Multiple games are on the market at any given time offering players a variety of play styles, top prizes and themes. Instant ticket prices are $1, $2, $3, $5 and $10 with a varied prize payout of 64% to 75%. Top prizes range from $100 to $75,000.

Powerball

Powerball tickets went on sale in Vermont July 1, 2003, with the first drawing held on July 2, 2003.

Powerball has a matrix of 5 of 55 and 1 of 42. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 146.1 million. Players can choose to claim the entire jackpot amount (30 graduated payments over 29 years) or claim approximately half in a one-time-only, lump sum payment. Jackpots start at $15,000,000 (paid in annual payments) and continue to roll until won. Other prize levels include a $200,000 second prize and 6 other prize levels with payouts from $3 to $10,000. One play costs one dollar.

For an additional $1.00, players may opt to PowerPlay their ticket, which will multiply prizes (except the jackpot) by 2, 3, 4, or 5 times. The multiplier is determined by a prize wheel at the time of the Powerball drawing. The drawings take place Wednesday and Saturday 10:59 PM (ET)

Tri-State Megabucks Plus

Introducing $2 Tri-State Megabucks Plus(r) - it's everything you love about the classic Megabucks(r) game, plus a whole lot more. Bigger jackpots, bigger prizes and better overall odds.

Tri-State Megabucks Plus(r) takes the excitement of Megabucks(r) to a whole new level by raising the starting jackpot to $1 million, increasing the second tier prize to $30,000, and lowering the overall odds of winning a prize to 1 in 5.9!

Tri-State Megabucks Plus(r) tickets cost just $2 and drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:59pm (ET).

Stop by your favorite lottery retailer to buy a ticket or two. Don't forget, subscriptions are also available. You can purchase them online by clicking here.

Tri-State Paycheck

Paycheck replaced the Triple Play game on January 12, 2007 with Tuesday and Friday drawings.

The draws are held on Tuesday and Friday nights at 6:50 PM (ET).
Tri-State Pick 3 and Pick 4 (Daily Numbers)
Pick 3 was the Vermont Lottery's first on-line game. It began on November 10, 1980. Pick 4 began September 3, 1985. Effective June 28, 1995, the daily numbers games, Pick 3 and Pick 4, became Tri-State games. On June 29, 2003, a mid-day draw was added for each game.

Players pick three or four numbers to be played either straight (same order), box (any order) or a combination of both. On September 13, 1998 front pair/back pair was added to the game. For both Pick 3 and Pick 4, players can wager 50 cents to $5.00 per play. Prizes won range from $25 to $25,000.The draws are conducted at 1:10 PM (ET) and 6:55 PM (ET) Sunday through Saturday.

Hot Lotto

Pick 5 numbers out of 39. Then pick your Hot Ball, 1 out of 19.

Pick your own numbers or let the computer pick them for you by asking for an easy pick.

Purchase up to 10 consecutive drawings at a time.

Drawings held at 9:40 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Win the jackpot by matching all 5 white numbers and the Hot Ball. Other prizes also awarded.

Hot Lotto prizes must be claimed within 365 days of the drawing for which they were eligible.

Ask your retailer for the Hot Lotto Sizzler option every time you play Hot Lotto and you will triple your prize (except the jackpot).

Pay $1 extra per play and your prize, except for the jackpot, will be multiplied by three. A $500 prize would be worth $1,500 and a $10,000 prize would be worth $30,000! The Hot Lotto Sizzler is a permanent addition to the Hot Lotto game.
