Vermont Country Tea was founded and created by Dori Ingalls, a Vermonter, who took a fantastic journey to find a home for her tea company in Waitsfield. Dori was born in Middlebury and raised in the Burlington area during the 50' and 60's. She was nurtured by a huge and long standing Vermont family who instilled in her the qualities and values of this unique and spectacular State. Her father, aunts and uncles either owned their own businesses or were educators in Vermont, teaching in schools from Bennington to Richford. Her Grandparents lived in Montpelier and it was her Grandmother Caswell, also a teacher, who initiated her education in cooking, gardening and herbs.

Eventually, in the early 70's, following her education at Middlebury College, Dori left the State to find her way in life and adventure. She chose Hawaii for this escapade and unlike most Vermonters that stray for just a short time, Dori lived there for 30 years. It was during this extraordinary life in the Islands that she continued her lessons in food. After owning a coffee farm, then exploring the abundant natural plants and herbs of Hawaii, Dori soon became interested in the tea business. Finally, in the mid 80's, she found her niche and launched herself into a new trade.

Over the past twenty years, Dori has developed and created over forty blends of tea for her Hawaiian Tea Company and for private label retail programs. During this lifetime in Hawaii, she also continued the education in herbs, food and gardening that her Grandma Caswell began in Montpelier. Dori worked with farmers to grow herbs for ingredients in her tea blends along with tending some of her own on her property. Sooner or later, however, most Vermonters are drawn back home. At last coming to her senses, Dori's desire to return to Vermont became overwhelming. Taking the time to find the perfect community, she rekindled her love of Waitsfield and built her new home on a beautiful piece of property, which was formerly part of a dairy farm. Dori has once again, begun growing some herbs for this tea company.

Rejuvenating a tea business in Vermont was inspired by a 100-year-old barn in Waitsfield Village. After major renovation, Dori felt this historic building would be the perfect home for a new tea company. Vermont Country Tea was launched in 2004 and is supported with twenty years of experience in blending tea.
