SAVOY theater Newsletter

and

schedule for nov 29 - DEC 5

Happy Thanksgiving!  We will be open this weekend beginning on Friday with matinee shows starting at 1:00 p.m..  We are opening Pedro Almodovar’s latest Pain and Glory, a semi-autobiographical film about a filmmaker looking back on his life and the effects it is having on him now as faces new and old challenges.  As much about the creative process as it is about the human condition, Almodovar turns out some of his best work to date.

We are holding onto Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit for another week.  It has been very popular and we are one of only two theaters playing it right now so catch it while it is here.  We may have to let Jojo go on 12/5 to make room for Martin Scorcese’s The Irishman.  We will also be bringing you a fascinating and captivating documentary about….mushrooms, of course!  Fantastic Fungi is one of those films that goes much deeper, far underground in fact to the very roots of the natural world!

We’ve also got two events coming up in December, Fiddlin’ is one of those infectious movies that will inspire you with it’s contagious energy – come get caught up in the music!  We are also hosting Boston hip hop artist Daniel Laurent’s latest anti-violence video short Outside.  Filmmaker Laurent (DL) will be on hand along with  a local group to talk about the video and the topics it covers.  More information and ticket links for both of these events are below.  We are also planning some special holiday events and screenings, including Elf and our second annual snowflake making workshop with our own Lilly Smith.

Some of them in the flesh, others remembered: his childhood in the 60s, when he emigrated with his parents to a village in Valencia in search of prosperity, the first desire, his first adult love in the Madrid of the 80s, the pain of the breakup of that love while it was still alive and intense, writing as the only therapy to forget the unforgettable, the early discovery of cinema, and the void, the infinite void that creates the incapacity to keep on making films. Pain and Glory talks about creation,
