Holdfast Recovery Uses CBT Therapy For Treating Addiction

When dealing with trauma or addiction, various approaches are adopted, as they yield different results. The bottom line is to find the best form of therapy that would have a long-lasting effect on the individual. At Holdfast Recovery, we believe we have an almost perfect therapy option in the form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT.

Developed by Dr. Aaron T. Beck, CBT involves evidence that is gotten about the individual during the course of the treatment. The concept of CBT involves how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotions), and how we act (behavior), and that all these act together in a way. Our automatic thoughts affect how we feel and how we behave, and our behavior affects how we think.

At our alcohol and drug rehab center, we believe that for our clients to gain full recovery, they need to work on their automatic thoughts, as it ultimately affects their behavior. Now this falls into three categories; thoughts about themselves, thoughts about the world, and thoughts about their future. That is why we help out clients in recognizing and reshaping their automatic thoughts as that would have an effect on their thought process, prompting a change in behavior.

We have designed a program that allows our clients to meet up with a therapist or behavioral health technician, twice per week, for the individual therapy and once a week for group therapy. The meeting with the therapist would involve looking for newer and healthier coping strategies, and to prevent the possibility of a relapse. Also, our clinicians would also help families prepare to receive clients back in sessions that hold during the week of the client's discharge, as this is also of high importance.

With this method, one can effectively overcome trauma or substance abuse and addiction, and become an overall better person. Why don't you call us today?

Holdfast Recovery Uses EMDR Therapy in Addiction Treatment

At Holdfast Recovery, our clinicians are trained in several treatment options, especially in the area of trauma. This is because we have seen that 95% of adults that suffer from substance abuse and addiction also have a history of trauma and other things related to it. That is why we see it as necessary to treat the trauma as well as the substance problem. Identifying the trauma behind the substance use problem helps to not only treat the problem, but also prevent the possibility of a relapse.

To achieve this we use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, or EMDR therapy is a form of treatment that works with evidence to treat trauma and memories that cause distress. This form of therapy, which is an information processing therapy, uses the brain's natural healing process to help heal treat the person.

The process of EMDR is divided into eight parts. The first and second part has to do with the building internal resources as this would be necessary to carry out the remaining parts of the therapy, which has to do with trauma reprocessing.

Oftentimes, there is often the tendency for people, including therapists to dismiss certain events as not having the impact of one that could cause distress and trauma, because they do not meet the criteria to be tagged as one. It could be that that event may be distressing or traumatic to the person because of what it means to them. The beauty of EMDR is that it is tailored to the individual, so that it recognises such events, looking to how the event may have affected the individual, even when others may be overlooked that particular event. EMDR takes notice of events that may have stressed the brain in a way, searching for symptoms like depression, anxiety, panic, alcohol and drugs use.

This is the treatment we use at our drug and alcohol rehab, one that is designed to meet the individual and take notice of things that may be overlooked. Things that could help the individual heal better. Give us a call today.
