SheJumps What's In Your Pack at the Green Mountain Club Waterbury Center Vermont

Join SheJumps at the Green Mountain Club Headquarters in Waterbury to talk about the Ten Hiking Essentials and Leave No Trace Policies. Even if you have a lot of hiking or backpacking experience, some of these principles might be new to you! Not only will you gain more hiking knowledge and feel equipped and ready to adventure this summer, you will also have the opportunity to meet new hiking partners and win giveaway prizes! After the discussion, we will offer a optional group hike up Mt. Hunger for anyone who wants to join. We welcome all women and girls (transgender and cisgender) as well as non-binary people who identify with the women's community.

Come hear from Long Trail Patroller Rosalie Sharp about what to take into the woods and ways to preserve our beautiful trails!

When & Where?
Sunday, June 23rd: Meet at the Green Mountain Club in Waterbury at 10:45 am for a Meet and Greet before the event! The talk will start at 11 am, and carpooling from the Green Mountain Club to Mt. Hunger Trailhead will start around 12 pm. The hike will take approx. 2-3 hours, and we should be returning to the Green Mountain Club by 3:30 pm.

What should I wear?
We will talk indoors, but the optional hike up Mt. Hunger will require a bit more preparation. Make sure to wear supportive footwear and pack warm layers, even if it feels warm outside. The temperature can quick drop at mountain summits, and packing waterproof gear is always a great plan. Ideal clothing allows for unrestricted movement and comfort while hiking.

What should I bring?
Nothing is needed for the talk, but if joining the hike, please bring a small backpack to carry water, snacks, and extra layers. Also highly suggested: rain gear, sun protection, first aid kit, and headlamp (just in case!)

More Notes on the Hike
Mt. Hunger is a steep trail, gaining about 2,260' in the 1.8 miles to the summit, finishing with a slightly challenging rock scramble. We will plan on splitting into a fast hiking group and a leisurely paced hiking group, with the possibility of a middle speed hiking group if there is enough interest.
