The Vermont Center for Crime Victim Services (CCVS) is proud to welcome Dr. Kimberly Lonsway to Vermont on October 12, 2018 for a statewide training on best practices for working with sexual assault survivors.

Over 75 Vermont law enforcement officers, prosecutors, victim advocates, and allied professionals are expected to attend the day-long training at The Ponds at Bolton Valley in Bolton, Vermont.

Dr. Lonsway is the Founding Board Member and current Research Director for End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI), America's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving criminal justice responses to sexual assault. EVAWI is responsible for the nationally-recognized #startbybelieving public awareness campaign.

Dr. Lonsway has trained thousands of professionals across the country and is an expert in the field of Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention. Dr. Lonsway will provide information on alternative reporting options for sexual assault survivors who may be intimidated by the criminal justice process, including the "open doors" model of services. The training also will review best practice research on appropriate responses to sexual assault disclosures and how to increase access to information, options, and advocacy services in a victim-centered, trauma-informed manner.

This training is funded through the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women S.T.O.P. (Services, Training, Officers, Prosecutors) formula grant administered by CCVS.

"We are fortunate in Vermont to have such an amazing group of professionals who regularly work together on behalf of survivors and our communities," said Chris Fenno, Executive Director of CCVS. "Receiving a high-level training from a national expert like Dr. Lonsway is a tremendous opportunity for the state."

The Vermont Center for Crime Victim Services (CCVS), established in 1992, administers the Vermont

Victims Compensation Program, the Vermont Restitution Unit, the Vermont Victim Assistance Program, and the Vermont Victim Assistance Academy, as well as several state and federal grant programs that benefit Vermont's crime victims. CCVS joins with victims, survivors, and those who interact with victims and offenders to provide, sustain, and support a collaborative system of direct services across Vermont that is comprehensive, victim-centered, trauma-informed, and accessible to diverse populations.

Dr. Lonsway will have some availability for in-person interviews in Vermont upon request to CCVS.
