Changes on the way at Vermont child care programs - Burlington Free Press

Vermont's child care system is about to undergo a major overhaul with new rules touching everything from teacher qualifications and play time to the way food is stored in refrigerators.

State officials say the new rules will help children to grow in safe and supportive environments, and signal that child care workers are professionals.

But compliance will take time and money. Vermonters who offer child care in their homes will need to buy liability insurance, fencing and other safety equipment.
