The Summit School of Traditional Music and Culture proudly presents our 7th annual Trad Camp - a folk music immersion camp for kids and teens ages 8-17.
Over the course of five days, July 18-22, classes are taught in fiddle, banjo, ukulele, guitar, singing, songwriting, dance, and drumming.
The goal of this unique and innovative camp is to engage children in high quality, focused musical experiences in a positive, informal, and social setting. The program teaches children life-long music skills and helps them increase their self-confidence in a fun and positive learning environment - while helping to keep America's traditional and folk music alive and strong in the next generation!
Eight musicians from throughout central Vermont - all highly regarded in the traditional and folk music world - have been recruited to teach this year's Trad Camp. Teachers this year include: Oliver Scanlon -Fiddle and Mandolin; Jon Gailmor - Songwriting; Tom MacKenzie - Banjo and Ukelele; Beth Telford - Cape Breton Fiddle; Leela Grace - Appalachian Clogging and By Ear Harmony Singing; Joanne Garton - Trad Band and Highland Dance; and Mark Greenberg - Beginner Guitar and Jug Band.
Camp begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. each day, with an extended day on Friday for our performance from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. We offer a "Stay and Play" hour from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. for an additional fee of $10.00 per day. Kids choose their own schedule of music classes for the first two days, and Wed-Fri they stick with a chosen schedule, so there is time to improve their skills before Friday's end-of-camp showcase.
The week will culminate with a Friday student showcase, where parents, families, friends, and community members can come together to celebrate the children's achievements. This full-on music immersion camp is "the" place to be this summer, providing fun and accessible music instruction for kids and teens of all musical abilities!
Fees are $300. Pay online, or send a check to: Summit School / 46 Barre St. #5 / Montpelier, VT 05602
