Vermont Creative Network Summit: Got Ideas?
The first Vermont Creative Network Summit will take place on November 4 and 5 in Montpelier. Summit sessions will focus on a variety of creative sector issues. Community development, artist and civic engagement, data collection, leadership, resource development, and visibility will all be explored as participants discuss ideas, exchange strategies, and share developments that enhance Vermont's general well-being and economy.

The Council is soliciting proposals for panel discussions, debates, skill building sessions and more. Find out more in the Call for Proposals.

The NEA Wants to Hear From YOU!
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is commemorating its fiftieth anniversary this year with a celebration that starts in September. As part of the festivities, the NEA is calling on people from all over the country to share how the arts have influenced their lives. Let's make sure Vermont is well represented!

Written, audio, photographic, and video submissions are welcome. On September 29, the agency will begin posting stories on and promoting them on social media. Share your story,  discover others, and find out more on the NEA website.
Folklorist Jane Beck Receives Hildene Award
On Sunday, July 26, Jane Beck received the Hildene Award, along with Susanne Rappaport, who was honored posthumously. The award is given annually to Vermonters who have made extraordinary contributions in the areas of land conservation and/or historic preservation. Collectively, Beck and Rappaport have dedicated nearly 100 years to preserving the stories, traditions, and legacies of Vermonters.

folklorist from 1979 to 1984 when the Vermont Folklife Center was spun off from the Council. She became the founding director and led the Folklife Center until her retirement in 2007.

The Council joins many others in congratulating Jane Beck on her award and thanking her for her many years of working to keep Vermont's folk history and traditions alive. Read the full story here.
Featured Story: People in the Paper
Wallpaper was hung this week at the new Waterbury State Office Complex. The paper is full of images taken from the State Archives; the images relate to the history of the Vermont State Hospital. Vermont artist Sarah-Lee Terrat designed the paper, and will paint a mural over it beginning next week.
