The Vermont Arts Council has hired Burlington resident Erika Lowe for the position of arts education programs manager. Lowe brings to the job a broad and deep background in education and the arts as well as a passion for making the arts a central part of a child's education.

She worked as an educator in K-12 private and public education for 13 years, most recently at Burlington High School. Lowe served as a Community Based Learning Fellow as part of the Burlington and Winooski Partnership for Change initiative. Prior to teaching, she was an exhibitions registrar at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Lowe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from the University of California in Santa Barbara, a Master of Arts in education from Chapman University, and a Certificate of Arts Restoration from Centro Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy.

"Erika's background and deep commitment to arts education will be instrumental in building the Arts Council's arts education agenda and establishing statewide arts education policies for Vermont," said Alex Aldrich, executive director. "Her experience and skill will absolutely boost our capacity to ensure that the arts become ever more integrated into the education of all Vermont's children."

Since 1965, the Vermont Arts Council has been the state's primary provider of funding, advocacy, and information for the arts in Vermont. Through its programs and services, the Council strives to increase public awareness of the positive role artists and arts organizations play in communities and to maximize opportunities for Vermonters to experience the arts in everyday life.
