Robert Francis Cleary, 73, of East Calais, died Thursday at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
He was born Aug. 2, 1941, in Springfield, the son of John W. and Helen (Polcyn) Cleary.
He graduated from Bennington Catholic High School in 1959 and earned a degree in highway engineering from the Vermont Agriculture and Technical Institute in Randolph Center in 1961.
He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
On March 25, 1972, he married Diane Wood of Randolph.
Mr. Cleary worked for the State of Vermont Highway Department and later was a self-employed contractor. He and his wife owned and operated the Maple Corner Store in Calais.
Survivors include his wife, Diane of East Calais; two daughters, Lindsey Waldman of Jeffersonville, and Amanda Camp of Norwich, Conn.; a brother, John Cleary of Williston; four sisters, Jacqueline Marro and Grace Collins, both of Bennington, Jean Nonna of Pleasantville, N.Y., and Helen Greene of Eagle Bridge, N.Y.; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Kelly Cleary.
A funeral service will be held at Guare and Sons Funeral Home in Montpelier, Tuesday at 11:00 am. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.
