Upcoming Events/Performances

Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration

Date: 7/4

Days: Saturday

Nothing lights up Stowe like the 4th of July fireworks at Mayo Farm. If you’re looking for old fashioned Independence Day fun for the family, this is the place to be! The entire family can retreat to the Mayo Events Field at 6:00pm for food, fun and fireworks! Organized and staffed by Stowe Parks & Recreation, there’s entertainment for all ages including live music, carnival games, hay rides, laser tag, and field games! Local food vendors give the event a home-town feel and with a blanket or lawn chair, you’ve got the best fireworks view in town! This is a free family event hosted by Stowe Parks & Recreation, Stowe Village Vibrancy and many dedicated volunteers!

Henry the Juggler

As part of our Spring & Summer Performance Series, Stowe Parks & Recreation is calling all those interested in seeing our special performers! Henry the Juggler is known to cause spontaneous outbursts of laughter. He speaks little, but says a great deal through his expression and body language. He has in his possession Balls, Clubs, Rings, Torches and other apparatus of his trade.

Youth/Teen Programs at the Recreation Center

Counselor-In-Training Program (Session 2)

Date: 7/20-8/14

Days: M-F

Time: 8-4pm

Ages: 13-16

Location: David Gale Recreation Center

Are you 13 to 16 years of age? Do you want to learn how to become a leader? Do you enjoy children? Do you want to have an educational and fun summer? If you answered yes, become a C.I.T. with us today! Space is limited and registration deadlines apply for each session. Two 4-week sessions available. Participants will learn about personal strengths, leadership development, team building and more. This program provides young adults the opportunity to develop the social, emotional and cognitive skills necessary for future success in the work place. Participants are required to fill out a C.I.T. application. They will learn about professional development, effective communication, and resume writing.

Youth Programs at Other Locations

Fishing Club

Date: 6/22-8/10

Days: Mondays

Time: 9-12pm

Ages: K-6

Location: Fly Rod Shop

Cost: $25 per class or $150 Residents/$160 Non-Residents for full 8-weeks

Min/Max: 4/12

Registration Deadline: 24 hours before class date

 

Parents, if your child enjoys fishing but it just isn’t your thing, or you are tired of doing all the work for them, by the end of this class they will be able to fish on their own! Kids will learn the basics about fish identification, parts of the rod and hook, lures & bait, and how to stay safe while fishing. Kids will also learn how to tie the fisherman’s knot (line to hook), the surgeons knot (line to line), how to put a bobber and bait on their hook. We will go over how to make the perfect cast, how basic lures work, and even find some of the food fish love to eat! This class is great for beginners or for those more experienced that want to perfect their skills. All the gear is provided by the Fly Rod Shop.

Survival Club

Date: 6/23-8/11

Days: Tuesdays

Time: 9-12pm

Ages: K-6

Location: Fly Rod Shop

Cost: $25 per class or $150 Residents/$160 Non-Residents for full 8-weeks

Min/Max: 5/15

Registration Deadline: 24 hours before class date

 

Kids will explore their environment, and put to practice the tactics and strategies that they learn for basic survival. Shelter construction, fire starting, outdoor cooking, native food species, animal identification, tracking, and orienteering will be just some of the topics covered.  Safety will be a large part of every lesson. The Fly Rod Shop will provide all materials needed for each lesson.  Our instructors will share their years of experience, and knowledge of the Vermont’s habitats. The children will need to come dressed appropriately for the weather.

Get geared up with Umiak Outdoor Outfitters. In this 2 hour program you will learn how to paddle a kayak and if you already know you will get so much better! You will have a blast while paddling on this fun adventure to elephant rock. Learn great paddle strokes through fun and exciting games.

Tennis Lessons

Time: 9:30-3:30 am (half hour lessons)

Ages: K-6

Location: Memorial Park

Cost: $20 per private lesson or $8 per group lesson per class

Registration Deadline: 24 hours before class date

 

Discover your love for tennis with a private or group lesson. Improve technique, agility and self-confidence with tennis professionals from Killigrew Tennis Academy. Please bring tennis racquets, shoes and a water bottle. All lessons will be a ½ hour in length and take place at the Stowe Parks and Recreation Tennis Courts in Memorial Park.

Adult Programs

Adult Intro to Stand Up Paddling Boarding (SUP)

Date: 7/2-8/27

Days: Thursdays

Time: 6-8pm

Ages: 18 & Up

Location: Waterbury Reservoir

Cost: $49 Residents/$59 Non Residents per class*

                *Additional fee of $3 per person for admission into the State Park

Min/Max: 1/10

Registration Deadline: 24 hours before class date

 

This is a great first step in learning how to maneuver a stand up paddleboard. The class is taught using SUPs that offer the most stability for beginning paddlers. You will learn about carrying, launching, basic strokes, balancing and maneuvers. Jump start your paddling with one of Umiak’s ACA certified instructors.

Tipsy Easel

Come and join these talented artists on a fun-filled painting adventure! Instructors will take you through a step by step process that will make painting easy and enjoyable. Bring a friend for a relaxing, creative night out! All ability levels are welcomed. By the end of this class, you will have a beautiful piece of art to take home and hang on your walls!

Pickleball Clinics

Ron Tofani, Ambassador for the United Sates Pickleball Association, will be running a group introduction of the game of Pickleball. Pickleball is a racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Ron’s goal is to spread his knowledge of the game to as many communities and individuals he can. Beginners will learn basic rules, scoring and strategy along with history, safety and source of equipment. Please wear athletic clothing and bring a water bottle. Game equipment will be provided by the instructor.
