Town hopes flashing light will slow traffic

In case drivers entering town on Maple Street don't see the 25-mph speed limit sign, a blinking yellow light attached to that sign might do the trick.

At least that's the hope of the Stowe Select Board, which approved a signal Monday evening. The board authorized spending $1,426 on a solar-powered flashing beacon that will be mounted to the speed limit sign on the southbound side of Maple Street, where the 40 mph state highway ends and the 25 mph local limit begins.
