Annual Meeting Update: New Trustees, New Officers
The Arts Council's June 8 annual meeting at the State House was only slightly upstaged by Governor Peter Shumlin's surprise press conference. Intrepid Council members, trustees, and staff were able to duck cameras and microphone wires to push through the State House lobby and successfully convene the 2015 annual meeting in Room 10.

Executive Director Alex Aldrich presented an update on the state of the arts in Vermont and announced two new arts awards (see following article). Seven trustees were elected to first or second terms by the membership.

After the close of the annual meeting, the new board of trustees elected FY2015 officers:

Chair, Irwin Gelber (West Barnet)
Vice Chair, Bob Stannard (Manchester Center)
Vice Chair, Edie Sawitsky (North Bennington)
Secretary/Treasurer, Ed Clark (Guildhall)
Member at Large, Gayle Ottmann (Quechee)

Despite a showery afternoon, a large number of arts supporters and Anniversary Club members showed up at the Arts Council office for the 2015 Anniversary Garden Party. Along with entertainment by Colin McCaffrey and Matt Schrag, guests enjoyed good food and sampled five mouthwatering cakes - one for each decade of the Arts Council's tenure. A good time was had by all!
Awards Honor Two Vermont Arts Icons
During the annual meeting Aldrich announced the approval by the board of two new arts awards, the
Ellen McCulloch-Lovell Award in Arts Education and the Margaret L. (Peggy) Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy.

McCulloch-Lovell is a former executive director of the Vermont Arts Council
Ellen McCulloch-Lovell
and the recently retired president of Marlboro College. She has worked tirelessly throughout her career to promote arts education.

Kannenstine is a former Council chair and artist whose spirited work
Peggy Kannenstine
in support of the arts has benefited numerous Vermont institutions including the Arts Council.

Both Kannenstine and McCulloch-Lovell addressed the importance of advocacy and education to the vibrancy of the arts in our state and the strength of our communities.
Featured Story: Things to Remember Camping
More than two dozen tiny collages hang in frames in the Council's Spotlight Gallery. The show is joyous - maybe more so when you read about the artist and her approach to making art. Get a glimpse of the work from Hannah Morris' perspective in this week's Featured Story.
Spotlight Gallery Reception: Meet the Artist!
Come to the Spotlight Gallery on Friday, June 12  to see "Things to Remember Camping" and meet Hannah Morris, the artist who created the show. The reception will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. All are welcome!
