Secretary of State: Solons appear to violate open meetings

Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos says the Legislature has to follow Vermont's open meeting law, while a lawyer for the Legislature says that's not always the case.

The exchange came after reporters complained of being barred from a meeting of the Senate Natural Resources Committee being held in the office of Senate President Pro Tem John Campbell.

Condos says Vermont's Constitution refers to lawmakers as public servants accountable to the people, and that the open meetings law cites that section in saying that government business should be conducted in public.
