I am pleased with our upcoming CCC concert Five's the Charm on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30PM at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier. It's one of our finest concerts in an already memorable season.

This program of remarkable and varied quintets includes Brahms' Piano Quintet in F minor-Op. 34, Shostakovich's Piano Quintet in G minor-Op. 57, and Amy Beach's Theme and Variations for flute and strings.

Brahms Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34 is considered by some to be the greatest piano quintet ever written. The combination of string quartet and piano makes for a powerful partnership. Brahms began the work in 1861 but didn't complete it until 1865 when he was just 31. He invited his friends Clara Schumann and the great violinist Joseph Joachim to weigh-in on the final product. The resulting masterpiece has tremendous scope both musically and emotionally. Before our live performance, you can link to a YouTube recording of the work:
