Political winds starting to shift? - Times Argus

Now that the dust has settled following Election Night 2014, political observers are trying to make sense of exactly what happened and why, as they tackle a core question: Did the ballot results signal a resurgence of the Vermont Republican Party or a repudiation of the policies of Gov. Peter Shumlin?

For several years - some would say since the departure of Gov. James Douglas in 2010 - the state Republican Party has been limping as it's struggled to raise money and field strong candidates in their races. During the recent election cycle, the party did not even field candidates for three of the five statewide offices: treasurer, auditor and secretary of state.
