Cookbook Review & Katherine Paterson

Tuesday, November 11th is cookbook review night at Bear Pond Books! Lynne, Helen, and Jess (from Capital Kitchen) have been trying out recipes from the best of 2014 cookbooks and we'll have samples of favorite recipes, reviews of notable books, and many cookbooks to browse. Plus - door prizes. Join us at 7:00 pm. This event is free and perfect preparation for the holidays.

Tuesday, November 18th we welcome Katherine Paterson to Bear Pond Books with her first work of nonfiction Stories of My Life. Katherine Paterson is well known for her children's books, including Bridge to Terabithia, Jacob Have I Loved, and The Great Gilly Hopkins. In her new book, she tells stories from her own life. You can hear a Vermont Public Radio interview with Katherine about this book here, and hear the author speak in person at the bookstore on Nov. 18th starting at 7:00pm.

Picture Books & Nature - Saturday, November 15th, 11:00 am

Picture book authors and illustrators Jason Chin (Gravity, Redwoods. . . many more) and Deirdre Gill (debut picture book Outside) discuss how they tell stories that are inspired by their love of nature, using both text and pictures.

This talk is part of our author-educators series, and will include both the process of creating picture books and ideas for activities with students. But you don't have to be an educator to attend and enjoy this talk - it's free and open to the public.

New Releases

Read This Book!

This book needs little promotion - we know it's going to be the gift book of the season - but we have to tell you we love Amy Poehler's "Yes, Please" as much as we love Amy herself.  Part memoir, part random musings, part advice and all funny, this new book is the next best thing to hanging out with Amy herself.

If that weren't enough, the audio version on 7 CD's is read by Amy and features guest spots by Carol Burnett, Seth Meyers, Kathleen Turner and Amy's parents. We don't say this often but it may be even better than the book!
