During this campaign season, you had heard a great deal from the candidates and now that Election Day is approaching, it is time for YOU, the citizens of Vermont to make your voices heard.

I write this to thank everyone who has come out to participate in this wonderful expression of our democracy and especially to those who have shown their support for me. I am incredibly grateful, humbled and honored by the many newspaper and organizational endorsements and all the Vermonters who have been supporting me in their own ways, from hosting a lawn sign to inviting me to discuss the issues. It is encouraging to know that my priorities are shared by so many in our state. The crisis of affordability is a challenge facing all of us, and I vow to continue working on your behalf to make sure solving this problem is a top priority for the legislature. Your involvement in the political process is integral to moving Vermont along a more prosperous path.

However, we aren't done yet; your most important step still lies ahead. We are incredibly fortunate as Americans to have the freedom -- and the responsibility -- to vote. In the 2010 non-presidential election we had an abysmal 49 percent voter turnout (meaning more than 200,000 Vermonters didn't show up) and the political experts are predicting this year will be even less. On November 4, I will go to the polls in Berlin and cast my ballot and I'm asking you to do the same in your district. To be clear, the purpose of this writing isn't to ask you to vote for me -- I'm writing to ask you to vote with me. Who you vote for is your choice and your choice alone.

I encourage you to join me in exercising our right to have our voices heard.

Your fellow Vermonter,

Phil Scott
