Vermont DMV chief: focusing on driving is best

WCAX - 11:38 am Mon Oct 27th, 2014

Nearly a month after the advent of Vermont's new law banning cellphones and other hand-held devices while driving, the state's motor vehicles chief says it's likely best to leave the electronics alone altogether and focus on driving.

The comment from Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Robert Ide follows release of a study from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety indicating that hands-free devices may be as bad or worse as hand-held cellphones.

Ide tells television station WCAX that anything that is a distraction from driving is not as safe as being undistracted.
