Gift keeps restored steeple historically accurate

The oldest standing church in Vermont's capital is getting a historically accurate finish to a steeple restoration, thanks to a gift from a local group.

The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus reports that plans had been for the Unitarian Church on Montpelier's Main Street to save some money by using copper pieces on parts of the church spire, rather than replacing the sections with historically accurate wood.

But thanks to a $15,000 gift from the Montpelier Heritage Group, the church has been able to shift gears at the last minute an install the more expensive wooden pieces.
