Montpelier high school flutist Jillian Reed has been named to the 2014 All-National Concert Band Honor Ensemble sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

Reed will join 670 of the most musically talented and skilled high school students in the United States for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: performing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 29, 2014.

These exceptional students, named the "best of the best" out of approximately 2.5 million students nationwide from local, district and state music festivals, will rehearse a repertoire of remarkably challenging music. They will perform under the baton of four of the most prominent conductors in the United States:

Concert Band: Mark Camphouse, Professor of Music, Conductor, Wind Symphony, George Mason University
Symphony Orchestra: Gerard Schwarz, Music Director, Eastern Music Festival Conductor Laureate, Seattle Symphony
Choir: Edith Copley, Regents' Professor, Director of Choral Studies, Northern Arizona University
Jazz: Robert Baca, Professor of Music, Director of Jazz Studies, University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire

Jillian Reed has held top seats in the All New England and All-State orchestras throughout her high school career, and twice won the first prize at the Vermont All-State Solo Scholarship competition for woodwinds. She is currently principal flute in the Vermont Youth Orchestra and held that same post in the Green Mountain Youth Symphony for several years. Reed has performed in masterclasses in the US and Canada for such eminent flutists as Jeanne Baxtresser and Emmanuel Pahud. On January 25, 2015 she will be a senior soloist with the Vermont Youth Orchestra performing the Carl Nielsen Flute Concerto at the Flynn Theater in Burlington. Reed is a longtime student of Montpelier flutist Karen Kevra.
