Pauline M. Lussier, Marvin J. Lapier - Motor Vehicle Accident

Vt. State Police - 5:10 pm Wed Oct 8th, 2014

On 10-08-2014 at approximately 1026 hours, members of the Vermont State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on US Rt 2 near the Haylde Rd intersection in Alburg, VT.

It was learned that the crash occurred between a motor vehicle and a Tractor-trailer unit (TTU), resulting in the motor vehicle coming to a position of rest off the north side of the roadway with the operator unconscious and entrapped within the vehicle. Witnesses indicated that the crash occurred at the end of a heavy downpour of rain, which made the roadway wet.
Alburg rescue, Alburg Fire, Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) units, and the Grand Isle Sheriff's Department (GISD) responded along with the Vermont
State Police. It was learned that Operator #1 (Lussier) had entered US Rt 2 from a private driveway and was struck in the driver's side by the TTU. Rescue personnel moved quickly and efficiently in getting the operator out of the vehicle and transported to Northwestern Medical Center (NWMC) while continuously performing lifesaving actions in attempts to revive Lussier.
Lussier was later pronounced dead in the NWMC emergency room. GISD, VSP, DMV, and Alburg fire remained on scene to continue the investigation into the cause of the crash.
Operator #2 (Lapier) did not document any injuries and advised that he did have his seatbelt on. Lapier's TTU suffered disabling damages to the driver's side front quarter panel from the crash. The TTU was towed by Helm's Salvage & Trucking.
The section of US Rt 2 between VT Rt 78 and West Shore Rd was closed for approximately 4 hours while emergency crews cleaned up the scene and carried
out investigations. AOT was notified and detoured traffic to avoid motorist inconvenience.
Subsequent investigations found that Lussier was not wearing her seatbelt during the crash. Lussier's vehicle deployed its front airbags and was
determined to be totaled after suffering heavy, disabling damage. Poissont's Auto in Alburg towed the vehicle.
The investigation will continue regarding the crash.
