posted at 8:49 am Tue Aug 26th, 2014 by (WherezIt_Staff)

VTrans would like to keep you informed of construction activities related to the following projects:

- Waterbury Roundabout Project
- Bolton - Waterbury US 2 Reclaim Project
- Northbound Off Ramp Signal Project
- Route 100 South Paving - Waitsfield/Moretown/Duxbury
- Stowe Street Sidewalks

PLEASE NOTE:
**In observance of Labor Day, construction work will stop on Friday, August 29th, 2014 by 12:00pm and will not resume until Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014.
**School is back in session this week; please take extra precautions around construction areas to watch for children walking to school and busses picking up and dropping off children. Parents, please utilize the school bus transportation system as much as possible to reduce traffic and delays and improve safety on Stowe Street.

Route 100 South Paving -- Waitsfield-Moretown-Duxbury
Project Location -- This project begins in Waitsfield Village and extends to the intersection of Route 2 at Juniper Fare Restaurant.

Construction signage is in place; however actual construction/paving is delayed and may begin later this week.

Stowe Street Sidewalks
Project Location: intersection of Railroad Street and Stowe Street north to Route 100

This project involves the replacement of sidewalks and retaining walls along Stowe Street in order to improve pedestrian safety and access. The construction company, Desroches Construction Services, will begin to mobilize in the area this week. You might wonder why this is starting right at the beginning of school. Originally, the project was scheduled to begin right after school got out; however, the bids came in higher than anticipated. Therefore, the town, working with the State, needed to secure additional funding. The low bidder took another job in the meantime, and could not accommodate this project until this week.

Waterbury Roundabout Project
Project Location: Intersection of Routes 100 / 2 in Waterbury.
Route 2 - Crews will continue installing new water lines on Route 2 west between Butler Street and the Route 100 / Route 2 intersection throughout the week. Travel will be reduced to alternating one-way traffic with flaggers present to assist in maintaining traffic flow.

Union Street/Route 2 - Crews will be excavating adjacent to the roadway near the intersection of Union Street and Route 2. Two-way traffic will be maintained during this work.

Pedestrian Path Near Maxi's - Crews will be excavating in the area of the pedestrian walkway in front of Maxi's Restaurant.

Motorists are reminded that there is a new temporary traffic pattern in effect on Route 100 southbound and northbound as follows:

  • Route 100 southbound - There are now two lanes southbound that serve as turning lanes for Route 2 east and Route 2 west. New traffic signals control traffic turning onto Route 2 east and west.

  • Route 100 Northbound - Route 100 northbound has been reduced to one lane from the intersection of Route 2. A new traffic signal controls Route 2 eastbound traffic turning onto Route 100.

This temporary traffic pattern change will be in effect until approximately mid-September while the former Route 100 northbound is reconstructed. Motorists should be aware of pedestrians and bicyclists as the new traffic pattern change consists of 12' travel lanes with no shoulders.

Traffic - Traffic delays can be expected throughout the week.

    Bolton-Waterbury (US 2 Reclaim)
Project Location: Route 2 - Parro's Gun Shop in Waterbury west along Route 2 to just beyond Latham Trailer Sales in Bolton. Estimated completion September 2014
Paving - Paving will continue throughout the project all week. Paving is weather dependent. Paving crews will also start preparing driveway aprons and side road entrances for final paving. Ditching and guardrail operations will be working throughout the project area all week.

Traffic - All work will require alternating one-way travel around the construction area. Traffic control personnel will be present to assist in maintaining traffic flow. Motorists should anticipate traffic delays while traveling through the project. Please allow for extra time in your travel plans.

    Northbound Off Ramp Signal Project
Project Location: The Northbound Off Ramp Signal Project is located at Exit 10 at the intersection of I-89 and VT100.

This traffic signal is currently functioning and signal timing is being adjusted. Light work will be performed on the project this week.

Traffic - Minimal traffic delays can be expected this week.

Please focus on safety when driving through the construction work zone and remember, it is now against the law to use a hand held cell phone in a construction work zone.
